Becoming a fluent reader requires several, complex literacy skills that develop one step at a time. To develop effective literacy skills, fluency and comprehension, it is essential that each step is mastered before moving to the next.
Loop Learning literacy programs are holistic, strength based, multi-sensory and take the overwhelm out of learning to read. My customized literacy programs follow the latest science of reading research, meet your child where they are in the process and address each of these essential steps.
Loop literacy programs are different than traditional tutoring methods. With my training in Montessori, Orton Gillingham and the Science of Reading, I will get to the root cause of your child’s reading difficulties. Each program begins with a detailed assessment of your child's reading level, their strengths, challenges, and goals, which I use to customize a program that suits your child’s specific literacy challenges.
Loop Learning has reading programs at all levels, for every type of learner. Whether you are looking for a Parent child reading program, a post-covid catch-up reading program, or an intensive phonics program, Loop Learning has you covered!
Parent/Child Reading Program:
I will partner with you and your child to teach the basics of a phonics reading program. The classes will be 1x/week for 6 weeks and will provide you with a solid foundation to help your child with sounding out (decoding) strategies, sight word exercises and reading comprehension strategies. The program will also include some basic focusing techniques. At the conclusion of the 6 weeks, you will have learned the appropriate tools to be able to take over and continue with phonics lessons and reading at home.
*Possible option for child to continue with weekly sessions with Sam and parent to support their child at home in between sessions.
Program Specifics:
-6 x 1.5 hours classes
-Target age: JK/SK – Grade 3
-Class 1: Reading assessment, focus tools and decoding and sight word strategies
-Classes 2-6: 1 phonics lesson per session, demonstrating how parents can apply tools and strategies and incorporate comprehension tools.
-Includes phonics workbook and ongoing email/phone support from Sam
Early Readers
The Early Readers program is a one-on-one program designed for younger readers to establish and develop the basic phonetic awareness skills necessary to become fluent readers. The Early Readers programs are multi-sensory programs based on the Orton-Gillingham and Montessori methods that build literacy skills and confidence.
Program Specifics:
-Sound/Symbol: Mastery of upper and lower case alphabet letter names and sounds.
-Creative: Fun, multi-sensory activities to teach phonemic awareness and sound blending
-Sight words: Improve fluency with proven strategies to learn common sight words
-Comprehension: Visualization techniques to improve reading comprehension.
-Printing: correct pencil grip and letter formation
-2-hour, weekly sessions (9:30am-11:30am or 1:00pm-3:00pm) + at home practice
Developing Readers
This program provides one-on-one support to students as they progress towards becoming independent readers. It is a structured and sequential reading and spelling program designed for struggling readers, or those looking for an enrichment program to build on early reading success.
Program Specifics:
-Progress towards advanced phonics: improved reading fluency and spelling
-Sight words: improved word recognition and reading speed
-Comprehension: build effective visualization techniques to support comprehension
-Eye tracking: increase reading speed
-Writing: organization of ideas, paragraph and sentence structure
-Self-regulation and stress management tools
-Focus and Time Management: increase productivity
-2-hour, weekly sessions (9:30am-11:30am or 1:00pm-3:00pm) + at home practice or intensive program option.
