Online learning gave us all a front row seat to our child’s education - their learning style, as well as their strengths and weaknesses. Many parents recognized that their children may have fallen behind, or have gaps in their reading, writing or math foundational skills. 

Parents often want to help their children work through their challenges at home, but don’t know how or where to start. 

Loop Learning can help! I offer Parent & Child educational programs so that you have the tools and confidence to help your child with reading, writing, math and homework strategies. You and your child will work with me to learn some fun, hands-on, practical educational skills that you can build on to support your child at home.

Parent/Child Reading Program:

I will partner with you, the parents to teach your child the basics of a phonics reading program. The classes will be 1x/week for 6 weeks and will provide a solid foundation to help with sounding out (decoding) strategies, sight word exercises and reading comprehension strategies. The program will also include some basic focusing techniques. At the conclusion of the 6 weeks, you will have learned the appropriate tools to be able to take over and continue with phonics lessons and guided reading at home. 

*Possible option for child to continue with weekly sessions with Sam and parent to support their child at home in between sessions.

-6 x 1.5 hours classes

-Target age: JK/SK – Grade 3

-Class 1: Reading assessment, focus tools and decoding and sight word strategies

-Classes 2-6: 1 phonics lessons per session, demonstrating how parents can apply tools and strategies and incorporate comprehension tools.

-Includes phonics workbook and ongoing email/phone support from Sam

Managing Homework: Strategies for Parents 

I will provide a 2.5 hour parent/child homework strategies session. During the session we will work through strategies to help prioritize assignments, manage stress and learn time management skills.

-20 minute consultation call with parent + 2.5 hour session with parent and child

-Target age: Grades 4-12 (or whenever they start getting homework)

Learn Your Multiplication Tables

I have drawn from my experience with Montessori and the Davis® method to create a fun, muti-sensory method to learn the times tables. 

Studies show that when you incorporate as many senses as possible into learning, the result is a deeper understanding and mastery of math concepts. During this 2.5 hour session, I will take you and your child through the steps of mastering the times tables, beginning with the 2x table. You and your child will leave the session with a solid understanding of the steps to move through all of the times tables at your own pace. 

-Target age: grades 2-6

-Visual: Explore the patterns in multiples:

-Concrete to Abstract: Begin with hands on manipulatives and move to abstract. Idea: the child can create their own multiplication board to take home (Sam to supply material).

-Kinesthetic: Toss the koosh balls as you practice multiples and build up to your times tables.

Writing Workshop

Using the Disney Writing Method (yes..Walt Disney!!), I will take you and your child through an amazing writing strategy that can be used for creative writing, research papers, essays, and persuasive writing assignments. 

-2.5 hour session

- Target age: Grades 4-12 

-Takes the overwhelm out of writing

-Creative and visual approach to idea generation

-Helps organize ideas before you write (hint..we use post it notes!!)

-Breaks writing assignments into logical, manageable steps 

-Improve paragraph structure and sentence fluency 

-Master the punctuation marks
